Luggage allowance and important flight information

If you have been granted a visa under sub-class 200, 201, 203 or 204, your air travel will be funded by the Australian Government through the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The IOM is a non profit inter-governmental humanitarian organization that assists migrants. IOM is providing you with Culture Orientation sessions as well as pre-departure medical checks for you and your family.

As soon as you will be scheduled for a flight, IOM staff will contact you to give more information about the Culture Orientation sessions (AUSCO) timing and arrangements. AUSCO sessions usually held five days before the departure date. Pre-departure medical check is done 2 days before departure.

Kindly be at Istanbul Ataturk Airport 4 hours (Four Hours) before the departure time indicated in your ticket.
Please look for IOM representative holding IOM plastic bags upon arrival to Istanbul Ataturk Airport.
Baggage allowance is 30 kgs for each seated passenger over 2 years old and one hand bag that should not exceeds 5 kgs. Children under age 2 do not get a baggage allowance but it is allowed to carry on board an extra small bag with baby food, nappies and extra cloths, total weight should not exceed 7 KG.
The baggage exceeding the air carrier’s dimensions and weight requirements will not be accepted at the check-in counter. The Airlines might accept extra weight charging you additional cost. IOM is not responsible to pay for excess luggage.
The airline will place labels on check-in luggage with your name and destination. Airline staff will attach a receipt for the luggage to your airline ticket. You will need to show this receipt if any of your luggage is lost.
A boarding pass will be issued to you when you check-in your luggage at the airport. You will need to show the boarding pass when you board the aircraft. Carry it with you during the flight and when collecting your luggage at your destination

The flight to Australia is very long from most parts of the world and can be tiring. During the flight you will be served regular meals and non-alcoholic drinks which are free. Airlines are usually able to provide vegetarian meals or special dietary foods but these will have to be ordered well before your flight. Please advise IOM representative during the Culture Orientation about your vegetarian meals or special dietary foods so that IOM would arrange it for you in due time before departure.

At the transit point as you need to change the Aircraft, therefore, if IOM assistance is not available at that transit point, you need to check with the Airport information about the gate your onward flight is departing from and to help you to reach it in due time.. Your luggage will normally be transferred automatically to the Airplane which will take you to final destination in Australia. IOM in case there is no IOM Office at the transit point, would coordinate with the Airlines to help you with the transit and travel arrangements.

When you leave the Airplane, make sure that you always carry your hand luggage, valuables and travel documents including boarding passes with you. Transit areas at most airports usually have shops where you can buy food snacks, clothing, souvenirs and tax-free items. Passengers in transit are not permitted outside of the transit area or to leave the airport.
