
The objective of this program is providing resettlement assistance to foreign citizens currently residing in Turkey, registered with UNHCR and approved for resettlement by the Embassy of Canada in Ankara. IOM Turkey implements this program in cooperation with UNHCR, the Canadian Embassy in Ankara and Turkish Authorities.
IOM Turkey provides assistance to refugees accepted under the Canada Refugees bound program as well as family reunification cases since 1991. IOM Turkey is working closely with Canadian Embassy in Ankara to ensure smooth processing of the migrants resettled to their new community.
Within the year 2009 IOM Turkey assisted 500 passengers with resettlement to Canada from various nationalities such as Iranians, Iraqi, Somali , Afghani and few number of other nationalities.
IMPORTANT DETAILS REGARDING YOUR FLIGHT TO CANADA
- Kindly be at Istanbul Ataturk Airport 4 hours (Four Hours) before the departure time indicated in your ticket.
- Please look for IOM representative holding IOM plastic bags upon arrival to Istanbul Ataturk Airport.
- Baggage allowance is 2 pieces of 23 Kg. for each seated passenger over 2 years old and one hand bag that should not exceed 5 kgs. Children under age 2 do not get a baggage allowance but it is allowed to carry on board an extra small bag with baby food, nappies and extra cloths, total weight should not exceed 7 KG.
- The baggage exceeding the air carrier's dimensions and weight requirements will not be accepted at the check-in counter.
- The airline will place labels on check-in luggage with your name and destination. Airline staff will attach a receipt for the luggage to your airline ticket. You will need to show this receipt if any of your luggage is lost.
- A boarding pass will be issued to you when you check-in your luggage at the airport. You will need to show the boarding pass when you board the aircraft. Carry it with you during the flight and when collecting your luggage at your destination
- IOM staff will be at the airport to help you check-in for your flight to Canada
- At the transit point as you need to change the Aircraft, therefore, IOM representatives are available to assist you during the transit time until you will be boarded to your flight to Canada.. Your luggage will normally be transferred automatically to the Airplane which will take you to your Port of Entry in Canada.
- When you leave the Airplane, make sure that you always carry your hand luggage, valuables and travel documents including boarding passes with you. Passengers in transit are not permitted outside of the transit area or to leave the airport.
